SMALL ROOMS WITH GODS

SMALL ROOMS WITH GODS

by Angela Janda
Working in collaboration with musician Susie Perkins and dramaturge David Olson, this new piece is developing directly from the collection of poems written by Ms. Janda after her performance in Jean Anouilh’s Antigone. Writing about Ms. Janda’s published Antigone poems, Joyce Sutphen – the Poet Laureate of Minnesota – said, "It’s good to be with the Ms. Janda in Small Room With Gods. There is so much prayer here that a person hardly knows what to do … 'to give away parts of oneself / in pieces or as a whole thing' – which is exactly what she does in this marvelous collection. She writes from both then and now – partly Antigone and always herself. What is especially wonderful is the way she lives through Antigone, ‘through the lonely to the wide/open.’ One of the many strengths of her writing is the absolute sparseness and beauty of the language."
