JUST BETWEEN US: A Story Collecting Project

THEATERWORK - continuing its tradition of conducting story gathering projects - has initiated a search for stories that express close connections between pairs of people: mother/daughter; father/son; best friends; spouses ... any remarkable bond between two people that needs remembering and celebrating. The project will first collect original writing, journal entries, letters, and will conduct direct interviews. Out of that material will emerge readings, scripted performances, recorded pieces for radio transmission. Interested participants will be taught and supported in conducting story collecting in their own families, organizations or neighborhoods. THEATERWORK has conducted this sort of project in New Mexico over the years, most recently a year-long project in the Mora Valley: "Where Angels Come To Sing!". Additionally, there was a "Bataan: The Journey Home" - stories from survivors of the Bataan Death March; "Guadalupe" - stories from the Grandmother generation of the Guadalupe Parish that resulted in a piece written by David Olson and composer John Kennedy, performed by actors and a chorus of sixty women. This sort of work has been part of TW's engagement with communities since its inception.
